Sausages and Beer: Breaking the German Stereotype

This blog began so time ago as a means to keep my family and friends updated on my adventures. For all those who don't know, I am in Bavaria, Germany for a year. My interests are pretty uninteresting: music, reading, movies, going out with my friends, even running. But laughing and having fun, without a doubt.

Life according to me

No, you can all breathe a breath of relief, I shall not be giving y'all a sermon relating to my views of life. Well, actually I coooould. It consists of one word: sleep! Oh, man, I would pay alot of money (even in euros) if I could be at home (yeppoon, buxheim, same thing) in bed, deeply asleep. You all might be wondering why I really want to sleep, considering that most of you guys know I'm tired (or at least look it) all the time. However, it seems that the German weather is causing acute sleepiness, plus I had one hell of a weekend. Allow me to explain.

... let's see, where did I leave it last time...
Sunday (last week): called Alex, which was noice. Went to that Japanese Festival in Munich with my pals here. Then went with Sachiko to this exchange meeting thing with her exchange organisation. Met some nice young folks (most of who(m?) were actually older than me).

Monday: school. bah.

Tuesday: school again. All of the exchange students (me included) were invited to the deputy pricipal's house for coffee. That was nice. (nice seems to be the word of the week). yummy german cakes....

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: school. didn't do much afterwards. Made a semi-successful lammington-making attempt. Thursday was also 'Kinderfest' (Children's Festival). there was a parade through memmingen where all the kids dressed up as stuff (for example, cheese, italians, earth wind water fire, etc). really cute.

Friday: 'Fish Day Eve' (sounds worse in english than in german). THE night to be in Memmingen, apparently. I, however, was not there. Franzi had her birthday party. In bed sometime after 3am.

Saturday: 'Fish Day'. Ohhh, I kinda wish I saw this little event. At about 6am ... nah, okay 7am, the men of memmingen (men, and only men, who were born there or/ live there for a number or years) go jumping in the little rivers that go through Memmingen to catch the fish. I think they cook and eat them afterwards. The fish, that is, not the men. I slept till 10.30am. Got home, slept for an hour and then went to Sachiko's house. We cleaned up the basement of this youth-building thing for Sachiko's combined birthday-going away party. The party, by the way, was really really good. Except for the fact that Sachiko is, you know, leaving. that was sad for me. the party finished at about 3am, and the remaining 5 of us went down to the Hawangen Fest (Sachiko lives in Hawangen). At 5.30 we walaked back home, through this meadow and ending up soaking wet from the knees down. went to bed at 6.30am. got driven home at 11am. ate 'breakfast' (okay, lunch) with the whole family (grandparents were over). oh wait, now it's

Sunday: yeah, so had lunch. slept from 2 pm to 3.30pm. ate more cake drank more tea. got ready for the OPERA. yes, that's right, meine Damen und Herren, I went to a real opera ('the troubador, by Guisueppe So-and-So). In Bregenz, which is in Austria. I saw the Vienna Symphony Orchestra!!! I think I spent more time watching the orchestra than the opera. ofcourse, it was raining (and the seating and stage is outside. actually the stage is this great big huge floating oil refinery like object has fire spurting out and everything. rather cool), so everyone was bundled up in rain jackets and what not. I found it entertaining when it started to rain cos there was this sortof mexican wave as everyone put their hoods on. yes, I'm easily amused. it finished at 11.30pm. got home at 1 am. went promptly to bed.

Monday (today): woke up and wished dearly to continue to sleeping. alas, could not. so here I am, at school, my eyes tingling with that slightly burning feeling they get when you feel you're going to topple from exhustion. oh, it's a hard life, I know. I'm also half way through harry potter. oh the suspense and excitment of it all. can barely contain myself. am now wondering how much I intended that to be sarcasim. welll....yes. and tonight I have to make a noodle salad, and then I going to my english teacher's house for this little get-together with the class. ohhh, did i tell you guys I played baseball last week? It was so fun!!

what else? last week of school. tomorrow is 'Wandertag'. we go climbing mountains for fun. then on thursday is school festival. lots of eating, drinking and making merry, as hobbits might be inclined to say. and then holidays. all of my exchange possie are going home..... ahh

ok gtg.

love, alicia xxx
