Phew, that was hard work! I hope that gave you all a little insight as to what I’ve been up to. Today is now Sunday (5th June), and I stayed over a friend’s house last night with four other people. We had a BBQ and then watched this dodgy movie ‘from the producers of The Fast and the Furious and xXx’… which explains a lot. Then we made chocolate fondue for dessert (at around midnight). It was really yummy, until the chocolate burned and turned glumpy. Then we watched a thriller film (in German, ofcourse). It’s interesting to see how much the subtitles are different to the actual dialogue. Then, to lighten the mood, we watched Charlie’s Angels 2. In bed at 4am, up at 10.30, breakfast at 11, home by 12. Came home and we had for lunch: asparagus (last of the season) with ham, potato and this special sauce, and fresh strawberries (grown locally) with cream for dessert. (A nice Sunday lunch in Bavaria). I am so full, I won’t be able to eat for the next two days. Hideous discovery last night, though. We were taking photos and I have a double chin (and it wasn’t just the lighting/angle of the shot)! Will have to work on that…

Sonday, 12th June.
Okay, it’s been a bigger problem than I thought actually getting a chance to post these blogs. I’ll get it done one day soon, I swear! Ohh, I should tell you what happened after that yummy lunch last week. I went rollerblading with Hannah and her friend. And, already not the most coordinated of people without balancing on wheels, fell over. More than once. And quite spectacularly, actually, going down a hill. I now have battle-scars on my knee (the same one I always hurt), on the palm of my hand, and nice big, obvious (and painful) one on my chin. Not to mention the rather big bruises on my thigh. But what’s the word for the bruises that stay for aggges? That’s what I really have. My host-grandmother gave me another serve of strawberries and cream as consolation. Ohhh! I also dyed my hair today! It’s brown (I say so anyway, the pack and my host parents call it ‘dark blond’). I think it looks quite good…brings out the colour of my eyes, or something. I went to a beer festival yesterday. And to Augsburg. Allow me to explain. Every so often, Sigrid and I meet with our EF Coordinator and this time it was in Augsburg, which is the 3rd biggest city in Bavaria (or similar), and really important in the past. Also really pretty. Did you know: it was home of the richest man in the world; Mozart’s father, Leopold (who was just as talented as his son, thankyou very much); and the first social-welfare housing called the Foggeri, which is still used today? It was also really important to the Roman Empire, and is called the most northern Italian city. We ate lunch and then went on a 2-hour tour of the town and learnt all that stuff.
When I was picked up from the train station by my host family, we went to the ‘Memmingen Stadt Fest’ or, the ‘great-big-fat-excuse-to-drink-beer-like-there’s-no-tomorrow.’ It was funny. I can look forward to another one in about 3weeks, where the men (women are fobidden) go into the little rivers that flow through the city and catch the fish (why not??). I saw huge glasses of beer (1 liter, quite heavy), the men wearing lederhosen and the women dirndls, schuhpattle, or however it’s called. I also ate sauerkraut and found out what bratwurst actually is (a sausage in bread. Wow). Oh, and learnt about this really ‘interesting’ gastronomical wonder: bread spread with pig fat with dried onions sprinkled on top. I was somewhat disgusted. Apparently it is quite good, but decided not to try it (isn’t Bambi enough??). Yeah. So that was my Saturday. Ohh, and I got home and I had two packages waiting for me. Thanks so much mum and dad, I loved the card, and now that I have the shoes and skirts, I only have to wait for the weather! And Maya!! Yahoo! Your voices cracked me up (in a good way!); it was really something to hear your voices. The music was also great….really caramel-ly. Ohh, did I ever tell you how really excited I got ages ago when I heard John Butler Trio on German Radio?? Twice??!! Yeah, so I had a really good weekend, let’s hope the week is good too!
