Safe and Sound
Hello All!
Like I promised, I'm writing this in Buxheim, Germany!! Yes, it's very exciting, and I'll try to give you the low down. Friday: Arrived Brisbane airport all right, and managed to meet Sage (against the odds). So I spent a few minutes with him and his family and then they went off jetsetting to Canada. I then sat around for a few hours and then met Ainsley and Kristy-Ann (the girl I travelled with). We went through checkin and customs allright and then went on the giant, colourful Qantus plane. You were right Mum, those planes are HUUUGE :) After 7 and a bit hours we landed in Singapore (I have photos of the lights) and had a sit around for 3 hours. Then we (just) made the final boarding call for our flight to Frankfurt - the gate had changed and we didn't know! After 13 and a bit hours we arrived in Frankfurt where I was accosted by a rather mean German airport dude. Noone else got questioned like I did. I was scared he wasn't going to let me into the country!! Jah, (hehehe) and then we met Katrina, the Frankfurt EF coordinator, who was very nice. She put the other 4 two or three month-stay girls on another plane to Hamburg and then Kristy and I went to the adjacent train station, which, at 7 o'clock, was a pleasant 6 degrees. oh yeah, that was when I called the family -- hallo family!!! So I was put on the train all by my lonesome for 2 hours and arrived in the city Ülm which was very big and quite similar to Brisbane (by the way, how big is Brisbane?) and I met my host familie, Peter, Gabby und Hannah. There I saw the tallest church in the world (!!!!) and Christmas markets. Then we drove home to Buxheim.... and I slept for 13 hours. On Sunday, we went to this other Christmas market-type thing in another church (there are alot of churches) and we climbed the mountain(it was a small one) -- very very pretty landscape. And then today, Monday, I went to school. Needless to say, I was a bit .... lost. Everything is so different. I was at school before 7.30!!! And I met some friends of Hannah's (I can only remember one, Jan). And he is so funny and helped me read the teacher's writing because the teacher's u's and n's are the same (v. confusing)!! School finished at 12.30 and then we went home and ate lunch (the most important meal in Germany) and then went to the Information (equivalent of Council??) building and offically registered. There was a bit of a problem with my passport (they weren't used it to and some details were different) like I didn't know where it was issued, and I didn't have passport photos, so I'll get them done tomorrow in Memmingen.
Uhh, I think that's it for today...oh the keyboard's different too. The 'y' and 'z' have swapped and other ones, too. I'm making lots of mistakes, because I'm used to the Australian keyboard. Hey Mo, thanks for the email. And could could you be in charge of passing this address to all of my friends? Sooo good : )
P.S: Happy Birthday, Lauren! I would try calling you, but I'm not sure when you'll be home.
Oh yeah, I can't really challenge the 'sausages and beer' because the first night for dinner we had, (you guessed it) wurst. hahaha.
I'm missing you all. And it's cold.
